Biodiesel from vegetable oils, ScienceDirect
Biodiesel is gaining acceptance in the market as fuel and lubricant. It is expected that biodiesel industries will rapidly grow worldwide in the coming years and information on biodiesel feedstock, production, and characteristics will be crucial than ever especially for those using vegetable oils as feedstock as these are currently the major sources for making biodiesel.

Oil Crops in the Context of Global Biodiesel Production
Oilseeds are among the most important crops in international trade. Annually, world consumption of vegetable oils and animal fats exceeds 300 Mton (USDA 2015d).According to the FAO database (FAOSTAT 2015), world production of vegetable oils has grown dramatically in recent decades, increasing more than 600 % in roughly 40 years, jumping from 23.6 Mton in 1972/1973 crop season to 180 Mton in
The term ''biodiesel'' was first pronounced in an article published in Chinese (Wang 1988), although the concept of biodiesel (the use vegetable oil as a fuel for engines) was first proposed by

The conversion of used cooking oils into biodiesel
Each catalyst used to convert cooking oil into biodiesel results in different levels of complexity, cost, energy consumption, and feasibility. According to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), biodiesel is defined as a “fuel comprised of mono-alkyl esters of long chain fatty acids derived from vegetable oils or animal fats”.
To prepare used cooking oil for biodiesel, start by heating the oil to 95°F in a large cooking pot. Next, line a funnel with a cheesecloth or coffee filter, place it over a clean container, and strain the oil by pouring it through the funnel.

Global Biodiesel Production: The State of the Art and Impact
The European Union mostly imports vegetable oil-based biodiesel from countries such as Argentina, Indonesia, and Malaysia (Onguglo et al. 2016). Most of the limited biodiesel trade is composed of Argentina’s exports to the US (Pacini et al. 2014).
More than 80 percent of biodiesel is made from vegetable oil (the rest is mostly animal fats). The soybean and canola oil that make up the majority of biodiesel is basically the same as the cooking oil you buy at the grocery store, while the corn and used cooking oils are inedible varieties generally used for animal feed and other purposes.
