Review and Design Overview of Plastic Waste-to-Pyrolysis Oil
A diesel engine was noted to give better performance when using fuel containig pyrolysis oil of up to 30%, and it may perform well with a maximum of up to 50% of the waste plastic oil blended into conventional diesel fuel.
This is definitely not the first time scientists have turned plastic into fuel (in fact, we've been reporting on these methods for years), but like most material sciences, the goal is to get the most plastic converted into the most fuel, at the cheapest cost and using the least amount of resources to do so.

Conversion of plastic waste into fuel oil using zeolite
Catalytic pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste to fuel oil experiment was tested with ZSM-5 zeolite (commercial and synthesized) catalysts along with other catalysts.
The fuel properties of waste plastic pyrolysis oil (WPPO) are close to the diesel fuel. The WPPO produced from high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene have higher heating values ranging from 40 to 43 MJ/kg.
