Optimization of biodiesel produced from waste sunflower
The produced sunflower biodiesel had an acid number of 0.2 mg KOH/g which was below the standard limit as seen in Table 6. A similar value was found for biodiesel produced from clean sunflower oil [77]. This property indicates the presence of FA in the biodiesel, the increase in acid number is caused by organic acids and oxidation.
Several raw materials of oil, such as crude sunflower oil (CSFO), crude canola oil (CCO), and crude soybean oil (CSO) have low levels of free fatty acids (FFA) ( < 2%) (Vicentini-Polette et al

Utilization of Waste Sunflower Oil Biomass as Biodiesel: Its
2009. Comparison of the optimum conditions of alkaline-catalyzed transesterification process for biodiesel production from pure sunflower cooking oil (PSCO) and waste sunflower cooking Oil (WSCO) through transesterification process using alkaline catalysts was studied.
Maximum biodiesel yields of 98.54% for sunflower oil and 96.89% for waste cooking oil were achieved under operating conditions of 70°C temperature, 19.5 methanol to oil molar ratio, 2 wt

Process optimization of KOH catalyzed biodiesel production
The aim of the present work is to optimize process parameters to maximize biodiesel conversion from equal proportion of mixed crude sunflower-mahua oil (CSMO) through sequential esterification
Base catalyzed transesterifiction process is applied for optimum yield (80%) of biodiesel. Fuel properties of sunflower oil biodiesel were compared with American Society for Testing and Materials

Production of Sunflower Biodiesel as an Alternative Fuel
2.1.2 NaOH Catalyst in Edible Oil. Used sunflower cooking oil is converted to biodiesel by conventional transesterification process using monohydric alcohol with a catalyst of sodium hydroxide in various concentrations, to give mono-alkyl esters . In this case, the best biodiesel yield percentage of 80% was achieved at a temperature of 60 ± 1
The optimization of the transesterification parameters of sunflower oil determined using CCD shows that biodiesel yield is dependent on catalyst concentration and methanol to oil ratio. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) on biodiesel yield showed a R2=0. 8387. The results supported that sunflower oil can be used for biodiesel production.

Characterizing Sunflower Oil Biodiesel Blends as Alternatives
Biodiesel was produced using a batch process. A 6:1 molar ratio of 98% pure methanol to pure sunflower oil was used in addition to 1% w/w sodium hydroxide pellets. The reactants were mixed in a round bottomed flask at 60°C for 2 hours. Resulting biodiesel was cleaned with warm brine
Sunflower is a plant widely used in applications from frying oil to energy production, such as biodiesel. Biodiesel is a fuel produced from renewable oils (vegetable, microbial or fish) or animal
- Does sunflower oil produce biodiesel?
- Fig. 12 represented the 1 HNMR spectra of sunflower oil and biodiesel. As presented in this figure, in the spectrum of biodiesel, the disappearance of glyceridic protons at 4.2 ppm and 4.3 ppm and the appearance of the new ?OCH 3 band at 3.7 ppm confirmed the biodiesel production from sunflower oil.
- Can sunflower waste cooking oil be produced over enhanced bifunctional catalyst?
- In this study, the production of FAME from sunflower waste cooking oil over the enhanced bifunctional catalyst was studied, to investigate the relationships between selected conditions of time, temperature and catalyst loading in obtaining a maximum yield, and optimum reaction conditions for the transesterification.
- Is sunflower oil better than palm oil for biodiesel?
- Different oil sources such as corn, and grapeseed can be used in its production, however, sunflower oil has proved to have better fuel quality as compared to other oil sources [ 17, 18 ]. Furthermore, Simbi et al. [ 19 ], reported enhanced fuel quality of biodiesel produced from waste sunflower oil as compared to waste palm oil.
- What is the water content of sunflower biodiesel?
- According to Table 6, the produced sunflower biodiesel had a water content of 0.03 wt% which was below the maximum limits allowed by international standards. This was lower than those found in literature for biodiesel produced from sunflower and waste cooking oils [ 36, 77 ].
- What is the optimum temperature for biodiesel production from sunflower oil?
- The results of the present study demonstrated that 1 h of reaction and a temperature of 25 °C (which can be considered as an ambient temperature and therefore does not require energy expenditure) present the optimum conditions for the production of biodiesel from sunflower oil and give a high yield (95.28 %).
- Can a heterogeneous catalyst produce biodiesel from transesterification of sunflower oil?
- A novel efficient and cost-effective heterogeneous catalyst for the production of biodiesel from transesterification of sunflower oil was prepared through the impregnation of K 2 CO 3 upon the Talc material. The physicochemical features of the catalyst were studied through several characterization analyses.
