Biodiesel Yield Prediction from Sunflower Oil Using
Sunflower oils are already utilized as high-quality food oils, and the byproduct, known as meal, can be easily used as livestock feed. The composition of sunflower oil is like that of other vegetable oils like soy and safflower, and biodiesel derived from sunflower oil is expected to possess similar properties to biodiesel made from soy.
The objective of our work is to produce biodiesel from a renewable and sustainable energy resource which is sunflower oil through transesterification process using alkaline catalyst and methanol, to optimize some parameters in the aim to obtain the best reaction yield, and to study some biodiesel’s properties such as kinematic viscosity

Production of biodiesel from sunflower oil and ethanol by
Production of biodiesel from sunflower oil and ethanol by base catalysed transesterification Production of biodiesel from sunflower oil and ethanol by base catalyzed transesterification MSc Thesis Alejandro Sales Department of Chemical Engineering Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) Stockholm, Sweden June 2011
Sunflower oil is especially high in protein and is Roger’s choice oilseed crop. “There are very few oils that can be made into biodiesel and sunflower is one of them. Sunflowers have one of the higher percentages of oil content. Soybeans are only 25% oil content, sunflowers are 35-45%. Plus, the community loves them.

Biomethane and biodiesel production from sunflower crop: A
According to Table 6, gas chromatography analysis showed that linoleic acid was the predominant fatty acid in the sunflower oil at 49.8%, followed by oleic acid (40.2%). Sunflower oil is rich in linoleic and oleic fatty acids, making this oil more unstable at high temperatures than other oils such as olive and peanut [45].
The fuel properties of sunflower oil biodiesel were determined and discussed in the light of ASTM D6751 standards for biodiesel. The sunflower oil biodiesel was chemically characterized with

Production of Biodiesel From Waste Cooking Oil, ResearchGate
142/143, Sudan. 1.0. 1 3 60. 40. 87.19. 30 2.53. KOH 0.80 0.843. Abstract . We report the optimization of sunflower oil methyl esters (SOME/biodiesel) production via alkaline catalyzed
Biodiesel is an alternative, renewable and sustainable source of energy that has become more attractive recently due to environmental concern and diminishing petroleum reserves.

How to Make Biodiesel From Vegetable Oil, ThoughtCo
Materials for Making Biodiesel . 1 liter of new vegetable oil (e.g., canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil) 3.5 grams (0.12 ounces) sodium hydroxide (also known as lye). Sodium hydroxide is used for some drain cleaners.
In the literature, biodiesel reaction times between 30 min to 9 h have been studied. Thirumarimurugan et al. [27] studied the transesterification reaction of waste sunflower oil with NaOH catalyst
- How to make biodiesel from sunflower seeds?
- The oil extracted from seeds was applied for biodiesel production through transesterification using a 6:1 methanol to oil molar ratio with 0.7% catalyst at 50 °C for 65 min. The process resulted in a 96.2% biodiesel yield with a heating value of 41.6 MJ/kg, corresponding to 84 kg biodiesel per ton of sunflower crop and 108.8 L gasoline-equivalent.
- How is biodiesel produced from sunflower oil?
- In this present study biodiesel was produced from sunflower oil by base-catalyzed transesterification process. A 30 L per batch experimental installation was used to produce biodiesel using a molar ratio of alcohol to oil 6:1, a reaction temperature of 65 °C and a reaction time of 2 h.
- Can sunflower oil be used for biofuel production?
- The residues of the sunflower crop are inexpensive and widely available substrates. These waste streams are typically burned or even left unused, creating serious environmental issues. In the present study, sunflower oil and its residues are used for biofuel production in the biorefinery framework.
- Can sunflower produce biogas and biodiesel?
- The results showed the high potential of the sunflower crop for biogas and biodiesel production, even without pretreatment and acidic transesterification. The optimum biorefinery produced 11095.0 MJ bioenergy (210.9 m 3 methane and 0.084 t biodiesel) per ton of sunflower.
- What is the optimum temperature for biodiesel production from sunflower oil?
- The results of the present study demonstrated that 1 h of reaction and a temperature of 25 °C (which can be considered as an ambient temperature and therefore does not require energy expenditure) present the optimum conditions for the production of biodiesel from sunflower oil and give a high yield (95.28 %).
- Can sunflower waste cooking oil be produced over enhanced bifunctional catalyst?
- In this study, the production of FAME from sunflower waste cooking oil over the enhanced bifunctional catalyst was studied, to investigate the relationships between selected conditions of time, temperature and catalyst loading in obtaining a maximum yield, and optimum reaction conditions for the transesterification.
