Biodiesel production: An updated review of evidence
This review paper highlights the production of biodiesel from different plant based feedstocks via the transesterification process. Biodiesel is a renewable, non-toxic, environment-friendly and an
India has approximately 500 million tonnes of biomass available per year. Out of which, 120 to 150 million tonnes are in surplus. As a part of the Pro MFG Sustainable Circular Economy Series – Doing Well by Doing Good, powered by BiofuelCircle, Dr. M.K. Mohanty pens down the key challenges and existing state of biofuel in the country.

What is the Global Biofuel Alliance and How is India
Policy framework and schemes supporting the biofuels sector in India. The National Biofuel Policy was amended in June 2022. There are two significant modifications. Firstly, it accelerates the deadline for achieving a 20 percent bioethanol blending rate in petrol, moving it from 2030 to the more ambitious target of 2025-26.
The present paper investigates about the production of biodiesel from neat Mahua oil via base catalyzed transesterification and mixing of the biodiesel with a suitable additive (Dimethyl carbonate

Biodiesel in India
When Refined Cooking Oil is produced, some oil is rejected, which is called "Acid Oil". Acid Oil, Palm Stearin and Animal Tallow are raw materials available in India, for manufacture of BioDiesel. Acid Oil produced is around 5 to 7% of Refined Cooking Oil. Acid oil contains 5 to 10% or more of Free Fatty Acids.
I am writing on behalf of Chem Energy Biofuels, located in Khurja. We are currently looking to source 80% crude glycerin, requiring 1000- 3000 MT.

Sustainable biodiesel: A comprehensive review on feedstock
The majority of palm oil's fatty acid (FFA) composition consists of palmitic acid (C16), stearic acid (C18), oleic acid (C18:1), and linoleic acid (C18:2) [21]. Challenges and opportunities of first-generation feedstock: Combustion engines can use vegetable oils as fuel, but their viscosity is much higher (10–20 times) than that of diesel
What is the future of Biodiesel plants in India? Fostering a Greener Horizon: The Future of Biodiesel in India: In India’s fast-paced development, where fossil fuels still dominate, biodiesel sourced from non-edible oil seeds, waste, and used cooking oil emerges as an invaluable feedstock for biodiesel production.
- Does India have a potential for biodiesel production?
- India exhibits a significant potential for biodiesel production due to the abundance of various biofuel crops within its territory.
- Why is biofuel development important in India?
- Biofuels also provide a relatively mature clean energy technology with minimal change in existing infrastructure. In this direction, India has made significant progress in biofuel development, with programs such as the Ethanol Blended Petrol Program and National Biodiesel Mission.
- What is a feedstock for biodiesel production in India?
- High-potential second-generation feedstock for biodiesel production uses waist cooking oil, acid oil, and animal tallow. Non edible crops in India as a feedstock for biodiesel production are yellow oleander oil (Sea mango (Cerbera odollam), Tung (Vernicia fordii), and Bottle tree (Brachychiton rupestris).
- How to extract biodiesel in India?
- Among them, transesterification is one the easiest and best method to extract the biodiesel. In India, biodiesel is produced primarily from nonedible vegetable oil, acid oils, animal tallow, and palm stearin oil. Despite having challenges. this research work. We also thank all the members of LA IHA for supporting and encouraging this research work.
- Does biodiesel production contribute to a holistic development path for India?
- Alongside this, the various social and economic benefits of optimal utilization of India¡¯s capacities, in term of biodiesel production, will ultimately contribute towards a holistic development path for the country. 6. - Can India make biofuel production a commercial success?
- To be able to make biofuel production in India a commercial success, we may need to have strong technological base supported by policy support mechanisms. If produced sustainably, biofuels may offer a part of the solution for problems such as energy security, import dependence for energy, rural employment generation, and climate change mitigation.
