Eni makes a new oil and gas discovery at the Baleine field
Eni has made a new oil and gas discovery at the Baleine field offshore Ivory Coast, increasing by around 25% the volumes of hydrocarbons in place. They are now estimated at 2.5 Gbl of oil and 93 bcm (3.3 tcf) of associated gas. The Baleine East 1X well was drilled in the CI-802 block, operated by Eni (90%), together with the Ivorian state-owned national oil and gas company Petroci (10%). A
2.4 To what extent is your jurisdiction’s oil production exported? In Ivory Coast, almost all crude oil production is exported. Of the 8,550,659 barrels of crude oil exported in 2022, 875,252 barrels will go to the state, 538,640 barrels to PETROCI and 7,136,767 barrels to private investors.

Is it feasible to open a palm oil processing plant in Ivory
Modern palm oil processing machine made in China. Features of new type palm oil processing plant: 1, High oil production rate, less oil in palm residual; 2, Automatic palm oil processing plant, high production efficiency; 3, Fewer workers to operate, lower cost of labor; 4, The final crude palm oil with high quality.
Historically, the Ivory Coast has maintained a relatively moderate level of hydrocarbon production, averaging around 30,000 barrels per day. However, with the upcoming exploitation phase of the Baleine field, the country’s crude oil production is projected to surge by 50% in the short term, heralding a transformative shift.

Ivory Coast Emerges As Nigeria's Biggest Trade Partner
The report shows that Nigeria’s crude oil exports to Ivory Coast have been steadily increasing since 2020, with a significant spike in the first half of 2024. In the second quarter of 2024, Ivory Coast imported goods from Nigeria worth N1.305 trillion, with crude oil exports accounting for N1.34 trillion.
The Baleine field is located within the Deep Tano sedimentary basin of the Ivory Coast. It contains light oil in two different stratigraphic levels of the Santonian and Cenomanian/Albian ages. The field is estimated to hold up to 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet of associated gas reserves. Baleine field discovery details
- Will Ivory Coast become a major oil producer?
- In recent years, Ivory Coast has also upgraded its state-owned Société ivoirienne de raffinage refinery to enable the production of low-sulfur fuels leveraging new technologies. Ivory Coast is aiming to become a major oil producer in the near-term future, as it yields new deepwater discoveries and unlocks cutting-edge net-zero technologies.
- What is tyre pyrolysis?
- Pyrolysis turns end-of-life tyres into tyre pyrolysis oil (TPO) and char. The TPO can be made into fuel, or substituted for crude oil in refineries. Car tyres contain just over 40% natural rubber (which is a form of biomass) and 60% fossil fuel derived rubber.
- What is the future of oil & gas in Ivory Coast?
- Oil and gas is becoming an increasingly stategic sector for Ivory Coast. The country has been expanding its existing crude oil production, with outputs of almost 60,000 barrels per day. Its ambition is to reach 200,000 BOE (barrel of oil equivalent) by 2020, as it pushes for foreign investment in offshore exploration.
- What is the largest oil discovery in Ivory Coast?
- Estimated to contain up to 2.5 billion barrels of oil and 3.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, the Baleine field is the largest oil discovery in Ivory Coast. The project is also expected to become the first emissions-free upstream development project in Africa under Scope 1 and 2 of the global standard Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
