Manufacture of Crude Palm Oil and Refined Palm Oil
In 2018, according to the USA Department of Agriculture, Ghana exported 160,000.00 metric tons of crude palm oil. The major destination of Ghana palm oil is Senegal. Other countries that import Ghana’s palm oil are Burkina Faso, Niger, UK, Spain, Netherlands and United States. In 2018, Ghana imported 300,000 tons of palm oil, mostly, from
In 2019 Ghana sold 275,772 tonnes of palm oil. For the year 2019 alone, the demand for Ghana palm oil (processed category) has escalated, with a change of 48.932 percent compared to the year 2018.

Small-Scale Palm Oil Production in Ghana: Practices
The environmental impact of small-scale palm oil processing mills in Ghana has come under serious questioning, especially the disposal of wastewater generated from their operations.
The small-scale palm oil mills in this study consume 0.760–2.391 L (mean = 1.658 L, SD = 0.446) of water in extracting 1 L of crude palm oil. Using crude palm oil density of 879 kg/m 3 (determined at the laboratory), the quantity of water used by small-scale processor translates into 0.86–2.72 T (mean = 1.88) for a tonne of crude palm oil

Quality and safety evaluation of important parameters in palm
Ghanaian consumers’ confidence and trust in palm oil have become weak over the past few years. This research seeks to evaluate the quality and safety (Sudan adulteration) parameters of palm oil
The environmental impact of small-scale palm oil processing mills in Ghana has come under serious questioning, especially the disposal of wastewater generated from their operations. This chapter describes the small-scale palm oil production operations in Ghana to highlight the associated environmental problems arising from the disposal of wastewater and other waste by-products. The chapter

Ghana's Palm Oil Market Report 2024, Prices, Size, Forecast
In 2023, the Ghanian palm oil market decreased by -27.3% to $433M, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption recorded a strong expansion. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $719M. From 2022 to 2023, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.
So there is a potential for a huge internal market for small-scale palm oil processors in Ghana, provided they can deliver the required quality. When supported through training and provision of efficient processing equipment the small-scale oil palm processors can produce good quality crude palm oil to meet the demand of the local industry.
- How many palm oil mills are there in Ghana?
- MASDAR (2011) reports there were more than 1,200 small-scale processing mills in Ghana producing approximately 60 percent of the national palm oil output. Côte d¡¯Ivoire has 16 large-scale mills competing with numerous small-scale (artisan) and medium-scale mills (AIPH, 2022).
- Are small-scale palm oil processing mills causing environmental problems in Ghana?
- The environmental impact of small-scale palm oil processing mills in Ghana has come under serious questioning, especially the disposal of wastewater generated from their operations.
- Is crude palm oil extraction a source of livelihood in Ghana?
- Crude palm oil extraction is one of the sources of livelihood in Ghana's Central Region. However, the water use and wastewater generation associated with the industry have not been given adequate attention. This study assessed the water consumption and wastewater generation by small-scale crude palm oil extraction mills in the region.
- Is palm oil profitable in Ghana?
- It has also been shown from the 2008 Ghana Demographic and Health Survey that one out of every two households (54%) in the country and four out of five (80%) households in the Centre Region used palm oil in food preparations . Small-scale palm oil processing has been shown to be profitable and can also be a source of employment. ... ...
