Extraction, characterization and modification of castor seed oil
51 Extraction, Characterization and Modification of Castor Seed Oil U. G. AKPAN, A. JIMOH, and A. D. MOHAMMED Conclusion The percentage oil content of castor seed was found to be 33.2% of the total weight of 155.30g. As such a satisfactory result cannot be achieved by solvent extraction process using laboratory Soxhlet apparatus.
The extraction and refining of castor oil using stage wise equipment was carried out. The analysis of the crude and refined oils according to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM

Extraction of Argemone ochroleuca seeds oil and parametric
This paper presents an in-depth study of the extraction process of Argemone ochroleuca seeds oil, including parameter optimization and oil characterization. This oil shows much promise for use in epoxy oil and biodiesel production. The optimum extraction, which gave an oil yield of 47.8%, was found to be a temperature of 63 °C, an extraction time of 6.8 h, and a solvent-to-sample ratio of 11.
Comparative Extraction of Castor seed Oil Using Polar and Non polar Solvents Swaroopa Rani Dasaria and Vaibhav V Gouda* aDepartment of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, Assam-781039, India Abstract Extraction of oil from castor seeds was carried out by Soxhlet apparatus using hexane at 1:3, 1:6, 1:9 solid to solvent

The objective of our work in this study is the extraction and characterization of castor oil (Ricinus communis L) physicochemical characterization for a better appreciation of the oil. Extraction of The castor bean oil is made by the chemical method Soxhlet (extracted with petroleum ether) gave an oil yield of the order of 29.17% and for the
- How to extract castor seeds?
- Currently used extraction techniques are supercritical fluid, pulsed electric field, Soxhlet, enzyme-assisted extraction, ultrasound, and microwave-assisted extraction. These methods are efficient and result in rapid extract recovery. Castor seeds are one of the most produced non-edible oil crops in India.
- Can AEE extract oil from castor seed?
- Scanning Electron Micrographs ( SEM) imagines showed that Viscozyme L causes a destruction of cell walls and liposome membranes structure of castor seeds, causing the oil release. The results showed that AEE is a no contaminant extraction technology that can be employed in the industrial extraction of oil from castor seed. 1. Introduction
- Is Castor a plant?
- Castor (Ricinus communis Linneo) belongs to the plant family of Euphorbiaceae and is a crop intensively cultivated to produce oil from its seeds. There is a high demand of oil on the international market since oil extraction is economically favorable and oil has versatile applications in industry.
- What are the by-products of castor seed oil processing?
- Seeds are commonly used for the extraction of oil, thus, a large number of by-products are obtained from them. The major by-products originating from castor (Ricinus communis Linneo) seed oil processing are oil cake and plant residues such as husks, leaves, roots, and stems, after seeds have been harvested and processed.
- Is Castor a viable seed oil extraction method?
- Castor is one of the essential seed crops. Demand for increasing vegetable oils (edible and non-edible) necessitates developing cost-effective, sustainable, environmentally friendly, and industrially viable seed oil extraction techniques that produce high extraction yield with minimal impact on bioactive quality.
- What are castor seeds?
- Castor seeds are one of the most produced non-edible oil crops in India. They are considered to be a valuable raw material for many value-added products due to the lipid composition of their oil.
