A method for extracting oil from tea (Camelia sinensis) seed
Unfortunately, most of the tea seed was directly discarded in the soil without full utilization, which led a huge waste of oil resources (Fan et al., 2018). Thus, increasing the use of tea seeds, especially as raw materials of extraction oil, can bring greater economic benefits.
The extraction of tea seed oil obtained from wild camellia seed using supercritical CO2 extraction has been investigated. The extraction was carried out under operation pressures of 20, 30, 35, 40

Recent advances in tea seeds ( Camellia Sinensis (L.) O
Once husked, TS kernel can be pressed to produce tea seed oil (TSO), and the byproduct known as tea seed meal (TSM) is usually compressed into tea seed cake (Huang et al., 2018) (Fig. 1 a). More than a seed, with research progressing, the TS has garnered considerable attention due to its promising potential, as attractive bioactive substances

Extraction Methods of Oils and Phytochemicals from Seeds
The benefit of EAEP has been shown in comparison to AEP of seeds. For the oil extraction of Moringa seeds, individual addition of proteases and carbohydrases led to oil yields ranging from 17–23% compared to 8% for the control. Protease led to highest oil recovery due to its role in solubilizing proteins in the seed substrate .
Conventional techniques of oil extraction, including mechanical pressing and rendering, have limitations such as low extraction rate, high energy consumption, and low yield. In this context, ultrasonic assisted extraction is green and fast oil extraction technology with a greater extraction rate and low energy consumption.

Production Process of Tea Seed Oil
Similar oil extraction yields were obtained during the extraction of canola seeds with hexane (21–36%) and ethyl acetate (25 to 40%), while for camelina seeds, it ranged from 9–16% for both
- Can microwave/ultrasonic assisted extraction improve the utilization of tea seed?
- In order to improve the utilization of tea seed, microwave/ultrasonic assisted extraction (MUAE) was firstly applied for the extraction of tea seed oil (TSO). The factors with significant effects on oil yield were screened by Plackett-Burman design and then optimized by Box-Behnken design.
- What is tea seed oil (TSO)?
- Tea seed (TS), as the mature fruit and growth source of tea plant, has been characterized with appealing bioactive substances, remarkable health benefits and diverse application prospects. As one of the most significant products of TS, tea seed oil (TSO) has gained recognition as the ¡°oriental olive oil¡±.
- Can novel processing technologies extract value-added compounds from tea leaves?
- In this review, the application of novel processing technologies for the extraction of value-added compounds from tea leaves is reviewed. The advantages and drawbacks of using these technologies are also highlighted. Tea (Camellia sinensis L.) is an ancient crop belonging to the Theaceae family.
- Is Muae an efficient method for extracting TSO from tea seed?
- Moreover, SEM results illustrated that the structure destruction of tea seed brought about by combining microwave and ultrasonic was the primary driving force for fast extraction. Therefore, MUAE was an efficient method for extracting TSO. 1. Introduction
- Can ultrasonic assisted extraction extract seed oils for multifaceted food applications?
- The application of ultrasonic assisted extraction to extract seed oils for multifaceted food applications is discussed in this study. Seed oils, which are notable sources of health-promoting characteristics and reservoirs of fatty acids and phytochemicals, are being targeted for effective extraction.
- What is ultrasound aided oil extraction?
- Ultrasound assisted oil extraction extracts oil from vegetables, oilseeds, and nuts by using a suitable carrier. The key parameters influencing ultrasound aided extraction of oilseed include particle shape and size, moisture content of seed, amount of solvent, and extraction time/temperature.
