Oil refinery, Wikipedia
In many ways, oil refineries use many different technologies and can be thought of as types of chemical plants. Since December 2008, the world's largest oil refinery has been the Jamnagar Refinery owned by Reliance Industries, located in Gujarat, India, with a processing capacity of 1.24 million barrels (197,000 m 3) per day.
The refinery plants generate a lot of waste which must be treated to meet the requirement of environmental agencies. In this chapter, the methods and technologies employed in the refinery of crude oil into its various product fractions as well as the types of waste generated at crude oil refineries and their methods of treatment are discussed.

Refining crude oil, U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
What is a refinery? Petroleum refineries convert crude oil and other liquids into many petroleum products that people use every day. Most refineries focus on producing transportation fuels. On average, U.S. refineries produce, from a 42-gallon barrel of crude oil: About 19 to 20 gallons of motor gasoline

Refinery Processes, API
Crude oil refineries employ some of the United States’ top scientists, engineers, and safety professionals to ensure that products are produced efficiently and safely. US refineries process about 17 million barrels of crude oil a day. Refinery configurations vary, but US refineries are undeniably some of the world’s most sophisticated
Understanding Crude Oil Refining. A refinery is a well-organized processing plant where the reformation of crude oil into various useful products takes place. Crude oil refining, on the other hand, is the process of breaking down all the organic matters in crude and separating them for further reformation.

Refining crude oil, the refining process, U.S. Energy
Petroleum refineries convert (refine) crude oil into petroleum products for use as fuels for transportation, heating, paving roads, and generating electricity and as feedstocks for making chemicals. Refining breaks crude oil down into its various components, which are then selectively reconfigured into new products.

- How many oil refineries are in Egypt?
- In Egypt, nine out of ten oil refineries are run by the state. This setup meant that investments in oil refineries never measured up to crude oil extraction investments, which had always relied on international firms such as Apache and BP.
- What is an oil refinery?
- An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial plant that transforms crude oil into useful petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas, jet fuel, asphalt base, heating oil, and fuel oils.
- Do refinery plants generate waste?
- The refinery plants generate a lot of waste which must be treated to meet the requirement of environmental agencies. In this chapter, the methods and technologies employed in the refinery of crude oil into its various product fractions as well as the types of waste generated at crude oil refineries and their methods of treatment are discussed.
- What is the objective function of refinery integrated optimization?
- Objective function for refinery integrated optimization The net profit of the refinery on the production horizon is the total value of oil products minus the cost of crude oils, processing production of units, inventory of all materials, changeover cost of crude oil in CDUs, energy consumption, and crude oil operation.
- Are the names and locations of the refineries fictitious?
- D.S.J. Jones Note: The names and location of the company and its refineries are, of course, fictitious. The study though is not. The author actually participated in the study itself and was later the lead engineer in the process design of one of the selected refinery (Case 6A) debottlenecking expansions.
- What types of products are produced in a refinery?
- The refinery process produced three groups of products: light fraction (e.g. gas such as liquid petroleum gas¡ªLPG, gasoline, aviation fuel, etc.); middle distillates or medium fraction (e.g. kerosene, lubrication oil, light gas oil, diesel oil, etc.); and heavy fraction or bottom residue (e.g. asphalt and bitumen, waxes, etc.).
