CPE604: PLANT DESIGN AND ECONOMICS, Academia.edu
As our production of margarine, we use palm oil as our main raw materials. In the simplest chemical reaction term, the hydrogenation of palm oil will produce the margarine. Hydrogenation of this oil will changed the phase of liquid phase of palm oil at room temperature to solid phase.
The saturated fatty acids and unsaturated fatty acids in palm oil account for about 50% each, making the palm oil better oxidation stability than other vegetable oils, so palm oil is also widely used as edible oil worldwide. And fractionation is the effective way to make the best use of palm oil.

Palm Oil in Tanzania | The Observatory of Economic Complexity
Exports In 2022, Tanzania exported $749k in Palm Oil, making it the 89th largest exporter of Palm Oil in the world. At the same year, Palm Oil was the 260th most exported product in Tanzania . The main destination of Palm Oil exports from Tanzania are: Spain ($288k), Rwanda ($266k), Democratic Republic of the Congo ($187k), Burundi ($2.56k
The oil palm yields two types of oil: One is extracted from the flesh of the fruit (palm oil), and the other from the seed, or kernel (palm kernel oil). Palm oil is consumed in many countries in vegetable oil, shortening, and margarine. In the United States, palm oil accounts for a very small percentage of overall fat consumption.

Interview: Dr Sivaruby Oil Palm offer trans acid margarine
Margarine from palm oil is cheaper than other margarine. Is the quality lower? But often people think, because margarine from palm oil is cheaper, it is of lower quality. The perception is when the price is higher, the quality is also better. Oil palm produces 3.5 tonnes of crude palm oil/hectare/year. Soybean only produces an average of 0.43
About 80% of the palm oil (PO), palm kernel oil (PKO) and their fractions produced globally are used for edible purposes. The unique solid content profile of PO, and its excellent oxidative
- Is palm oil used in margarines?
- Due to its naturally semisolid characteristic at room temperature and ability to be modified, palm oil is an ideal fat for application in margarines. In industrial margarines, an average high solid fat content (SFC) is sought at 20 °C.
- What can palm stearin be used for in margarine production?
- Palm stearin can be used as a lipid basis in interesterification with liquid oils to modify the physical characteristics for the preparation of margarines.
- Which raw materials are used in margarine production?
- In margarine production, oils and fats usually are considered to be the most important raw materials used, as oils and fats are significant in relation to the characteristics of the finished margarine. The type of oils or fats used has a considerable influence on the¡ 2018 IEEE International Conference on Industrial¡Â
- What is the maximum amount of palm oil used in table margarines?
- Table margarines can be formulated with up to 50% palm oil, with an average of 25%.
- How can a margarine plant help your business?
- Generate new revenues by refining edible oils further into low-fat spreads or table, liquid, cake and cream, and puff pastry margarines. For the highest yellow fat product quality and yield, optimize your edible oil processes with hygienic, highly automated, modular margarine plant systems from Alfa Laval.
- What is African palm oil?
- African palm oil (APO) is extracted from the fruit¡¯s mesocarp and is known for its unique composition of fatty acids. It presents a balanced profile of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, which makes this oil extremely versatile and enables a wide range of applications [21, 22].
