The Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Value Chain
Microbial-induced illnesses evade the host immune system and bone impairment [35]. Crude sesame oil (CSO) is the quality oil widely used as cooking oil, salad dressing, blending component in the oil refinery, and ointment. CSO studied in this study is unrefined mechanically extracted sesame oil in a small-scale extraction plant.
The oilseed crushing and refining industry produces for the domestic market. Most of the oil is consumed as crude oil and Ethiopia is the net importer of refined oil, mainly refined soybean and palm oil (Wijnands et al., 2007). Refined oil is mainly used in urban regions; and the production of refined oil in Ethiopia is very limited (20 000 tons).

Ethiopia Edible Oil Industry Mapping, Global Alliance
EDIBLE OIL INDUSTRY MAPPING 3 1. Introduction The word oil is derived from the Latin word oleum, originally used for olive oil, but nowadays it means any of numerous combustible and unctuous substances that are liquid at room
Ethiopia exports majorly the raw seed to China and Japan. The demand for export is mainly determined by the colour, taste, purity and dryness of the seeds, while the opportunity to export refined sesame oil to Europe, USA and other countries are not well established. On the other hand, Ethiopia is the net importer of refined oil for soybean and

sesame, ground nut and cotton are important in Ethiopia for edible oil consumption. During the last 60 years, 156 varieties with their production practices were registered. Sesame contributes significantly to the foreign currency earnings next to coffee.
1. Introduction. Among many plant species that bear oils in their seed in Ethiopia, only nine of them are economically important. These are noug (Guizotia abyssinica), linseed and gomenzer or Ethiopian Mustard (Brassica carinata) classified as highland (>2400 meters above sea level), sesame and groundnuts are classified as lowland (<1500 meters above sea level) oil seeds.

Edible Oil Oily Prices, No Respite for Consumers
The forex obtained from sesame oil exports would go towards procuring crude sunflower oil to be processed locally, he told Fortune. The plan does not seem that different to what officials have been doing. The federal government buys large volumes of crude palm oil, mainly from Malaysia, and distributes it to industrial-scale processing plants.

For decades, Ethiopia has sought to exploit its abundance of hydrocarbon resources, estimated to be as much as 8 trillion cubic liters in crude oil reserves, largely located in the country’s east.
