Biggest Russian Refinery Raises Crude Oil Processing by 4%
In addition, Rosneft’s refinery in Tuapse on the Black Sea has reportedly halted crude processing since October 1 because of low refining margins, industry sources told Reuters earlier this week.
The Ukrainian strikes have dealt a significant blow to Russia’s refining capacity, knocking out up to 900,000 barrels per day. Repairs will be slow and expensive, in part because refinery stacks—where oil is distilled into its constituent parts—are huge and complex pieces of equipment that take years to design and build, and in part because Western sanctions are hampering Russian firms

Russia Crude Oil Refining Drops to 10-Month Low After Ukraine
With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in its third year, Kyiv is using drones to target its enemy’s key industry. The government has defended the strategy, saying it’s seeking to curb fuel supplies to the front line and cut the flow of petrodollars into Kremlin coffers, but US officials are reported to have warned their ally that the attacks risk driving up the global oil price.
Russia’s annual oil proceeds almost doubled in May, with the nation seemingly adapting to its international sanctions, including a EU ban on Russian oil imports. It is also benefitting from crude oil prices being on a general upward trend since the latter part of 2023, according to Bloomberg calculations.

Russia's Tuapse oil refinery to resume operations in November
The export-oriented Tuapse plant, which has processing capacity of 240,000 bpd of oil, produces naphtha, fuel oil, vacuum gasoil and high-sulfur diesel, mainly supplying Turkey, China, Malaysia and Singapore. The refinery supplies almost no gasoline and low-sulfur diesel to Russia's domestic market.
Officials in two Russian regions bordering Ukraine say Ukrainian drones have killed two people and hit an oil refinery, setting it on fire. the high-profile abduction of Seda Suleimanova, a

India's oil refinery comeback: MRPL & Chennai Petro's success
Although oil refineries are currently riding high on elevated crude oil prices, keep in mind that they operate in a cyclical industry. As a result, they might trade at low P/Es (price-to-earnings ratios) during periods of upcycle. While there have been very few additions to refining capacities, this trend may change soon.

Oil refining. Almost all of the crude oil produced in the world is refined into other products before being used. These include fuels for automobiles, ships and aircraft, as well as those used for heating. Oil is also made into a variety of chemicals and products with a wide range of industrial and commercial uses – notably plastics.
Lukoil Volgograd Refinery. The Lukoil Volgograd refinery located in Volgograd, Russia has been in operational since 1957. The refinery has undergone modernisation with a high-index oils production facility commissioned in January 2021, while a second solar plant of 20MW capacity is currently under construction at the site.
- Why is Russian oil refining so important?
- Ensuring a steady and abundant supply of motor fuels to the Russian market at relatively low prices is the cornerstone of the government¡¯s policy for oil refining in the interests of energy security and social stability ( Kapustin and Grushevenko, 2018a ).
- What is Russia's oil refining capacity?
- However, in total, Russia's cumulative primary oil refining capacity, put offline due to various outages and maintenances, is expected at 4.4 million tons in April, up from 4.1 million tons in March.
- Which Russian refineries have a higher throughput capacity?
- Refineries in Omsk (1955), Volgograd (1957), Nizhniy Novgorod (1958), Perm (1958), Ryazan (1960), Yaroslavl (1961), and Kirishi (1966) had much larger throughput capacities and they, as a rule, were more sophisticated.
- Why are heavy fuel oil exports so high in Russia?
- Owing to the less complex nature of Russian refineries, heavy fuel oil (HFO) exports have been very high, both as a share of the export product mix, and in absolute terms. In 2012 the share of fuel oil in Russian product exports peaked at 53 per cent of the total. In 2014 they reached their absolute maximum level of 82.5 million tons (mt).
- How much oil does Russia refine a day?
- According to Reuters calculations, total Russian primary oil refining capacity, idled by drones, was reduced to 90,500 metric tons per day (660,000 barrels per day) from around 123,800 tons per day (907,000 bpd) previously.
- What are the different types of energy transformation in Zimbabwe?
- One of the most important types of transformation for the energy system is the refining of crude oil into oil products, such as the fuels that power automobiles, ships and planes. No data for Zimbabwe for 2021. Another important form of transformation is the generation of electricity.
